What are the four layers that Laminate planks are made of?

The Wear Layer

The Wear Layer is the top most layer and is constructed from a strong substance such as melamine resin or plastic. Higher quality laminate floors may have the top layer made of aluminum oxide, which makes it one of the most durable flooring options.

  • The Decorative Layer is located underneath the Wear Layer and is a printed image layer. There is a variety in the quality as some only mimic the colours and patterns while others also mimic the feel of wood.

This layer contains more than 80% wood and is used to provide structural strength and high resistance. This layer also works as a moisture barrier, making it great for moist locations.

  • The bottommost layer is the Backing Layer and it serves as a foundation. Providing the strength and stability to keep the board straight, this layer is responsible for protecting both the subflooring and the laminate itself.

Types of Laminate Flooring

There are many different types of laminate flooring however the most popular type is Wood-plank. The colour and design options mimic the look of genuine hardwood, whilst also being sturdy and thick.
